Welcome to the Indie Files. My name is Amanda Ash, and I’m a freelance journalist based out of Vancouver. I’m also a Master of Journalism student at the University of British Columbia.
I’m currently working at CBC Radio 3 to create a Canadian music wiki. This summer I was an arts and life reporter with the Victoria Times Colonist. I freelance for the Vancouver Sun, the Edmonton Journal, and Exclaim! Magazine. I’m also a juror for the Polaris Music Prize.
In the past, I’ve worked as the Entertainment Editor for the Gateway, the Online Content Editor for NIGHTLIFE News Edmonton and a Tastemaker for CBC Radio 3. I have also been a contributing writer to Chart Magazine, ChartAttack.com, BeatRoute Magazine and the Georgia Straight.
Basically, I’m a music junkie.
The Indie Files is a music blog focused on unearthing new Canadian independent music. This site stems from my love for my job and for creative writing. Here, you’ll find exclusive band interviews, album reviews, random musings, opinions, audio clips, videos, music downloads and contests to keep you up-to-date with Canada’s growing independent music scene.
I hope you enjoy the site. Thanks for reading!
