And so the Canadian music wiki project begins

Clown hat courtesy of ... we're not quite sure.

Today is the first day of what is sure to be an insane four months.

I have reclaimed my previous Radio 3 fort/cubicle from when I was an intern here at the CBC in May. All is quiet, save for the tap-tap-tapping of keyboards. Lana and Lisa, my cubicle buddies, are working diligently. Chris is singing to himself. Grant is off somewhere grinning about how he gets to interview the Twilight vampire Jasper (aka Jackson Rathbone). There is a clown costume, complete with big red shoes, at one end of my desk. Apparently, it’s been here for a year. I may wear it one day for inspiration. We’ll see.

Now, you’re probably wondering why I’m back at CBC Radio 3. In August, I received a $15 000 grant to develop and research a Canadian music wiki in conjunction with Radio 3. The aim is to enable Canadians — whether they’re fans, journalists, artists or industry professionals — to share their passion for music and create a user-generated, online resource focused exclusively on Canadian music using wiki software. We hope to have a soft launch of the wiki by the end of December.

Fun, eh?

I plan on creating another blog to document the process, garner feedback and advice, as well as spread the word about this fantastic project. I will let you know when the blog’s up and running.

In the meantime, feel free to e-mail me or comment if you’ve got any ideas about what you’d like to see the wiki include, or if you’re a wiki genius and want to lend me some advice.
