My latest obsession: Jenn Grant’s Honeymoon Punch

Published online at Exclaim.ca on January 11, 2011. By Amanda Ash Jenn Grant’s music has always mirrored her emotions. Orchestra for the Moon, the Halifax, NS-based singer-songwriter’s debut, showed us her spunky, wide-eyed naivety. Then, her 2009 release,Echoes, brought us to a heavy place filled with heartbreak, loneliness and mourning. Now, with Honeymoon Punch, Grant is ready … Continue reading

My latest obsession: Kathryn Calder

In 2007, Kathryn Calder decided to explore her songwriting capabilities. Her musical talents had always been leant to a larger group ― either Victoria, BC’s Immaculate Machine or the infamous New Pornographers ― so Calder chose to experiment with her sound and style to see what would emerge. Over the past few years, Calder cut … Continue reading

My latest obsession: Royal Wood’s “On Top Of Your Love” video

Singer-songwriter Royal Wood has been in my head for a few days now. “On Top Of Your Love,” the video for his first single off of The Waiting, is unbelievable. I’m addicted to this song. There’s also a colour version of the video, but the black and white one is much more emotive.

During the interview, Lana explained to Hannah and myself how she was the first Radio 3 host to listen to Georgas’ demo and bring … Continue reading

My latest obsession: Team Canada DJs

Team Canada DJs‘ upcoming release Canadian Club is like a portable party (also know as a porta-party, ha!). The Montréal duo (DJs Grandtheft and D.R. one) have an intense passion for procreating oldies classics with today’s top 40 hits, and when you cram these mash-ups onto one shiny disc, you’ve got a major dancestravaganza waiting to happen. Unlike … Continue reading

My latest obsession: You Say Party! We Say Die!

You Say Party! We Say Die! have been dominating my iPod for the past week now. The Abbotsford, B.C. band’s new album XXXX is a killer—it’s new-wave rock wearing a sexy red evening gown while battling dragons. YSP! WSD! have reinvented themselves with this aforementioned style of new-wave rock, and personally I think it’s a … Continue reading
