My latest obsession: Royal Wood’s “On Top Of Your Love” video

Singer-songwriter Royal Wood has been in my head for a few days now. “On Top Of Your Love,” the video for his first single off of The Waiting, is unbelievable. I’m addicted to this song. There’s also a colour version of the video, but the black and white one is much more emotive.

My Polaris Prize picks

Last night at midnight was the deadline for all Polaris Music Prize  jurors to submit their Top 5 album choices for the 2010 award. I’ve been a juror since 2007, and compared to past years, this round proved to be the toughest. There were about ten albums neck-and-neck, vying for a shot at the Long … Continue reading

An interview with Poirier

Montréal-based DJ and producer Poirier brought his dancehall beats and soca energy to Vancouver’s Biltmore Cabaret on May 1. Before the show, local music journalist Miné Salkin and I got a chance to sit down with him to discuss his latest two-disc album, Running High. If you’re confused by my last comment in the video, check … Continue reading

An interview with Brasstronaut’s Edo Van Breemen

Last week, I had the chance to catch up with Edo Van Breemen from the Vancouver-based rock group Brasstronaut. It was an interesting chat. Van Breemen’s day had been so insane (Brasstronaut’s bass player had a baby that afternoon) he’d hardly eaten. When I met him, he had to play his show at St. James … Continue reading

During the interview, Lana explained to Hannah and myself how she was the first Radio 3 host to listen to Georgas’ demo and bring … Continue reading

Hannah Georgas: The Tipping Point

Th May 2010 cover story for Exclaim! Magazine By Amanda Ash “It’s a really great feeling to know people want to hear my opinion and my advice on music. Where I Play: Vertical Studios

Featured in the May issue of Exclaim! Magazine By Amanda Ash Located in Vancouver producer Tom Dobrzanski’s basement apartment, Vertical Studios doesn’t look like your typical indie-rocker hangout. The place is void of that familiar cigarettes-and-sweat aroma. There are no mud-chunked Converse sneakers kicking around. No half-empty beer cans stuck to the floor. No guitars, … Continue reading
